Projects

Kidco Construction Ltd. has successfully completed many large scale earthmoving projects in the past. We also completed the grading for Lafarge’s contract of Stoney Trail between Crowchild and Country Hills. Listed below are a few notable projects:

Stoney Trail 6895/05 -- Alberta Transportation
Kidco Construction Ltd. completed this project in fall of 2006. Kidco was the General Contractor on this site. This project is piece of the overall Stoney Trail Ring Road. The work consisted of: General grading, subgrade construction, pond construction, underground utility installations, fencing, some paving, and landscaping.

Stoney Trail 6713/03 -- Alberta Transportation
Kidco Construction Ltd. worked as a sub-contractor for Lafarge Canada Inc. on this project during 2003 and 2004. Our scope of work was the grading and subgrade preparation.

Deerfoot Trail Contract #8 -- City of Calgary
The project was tendered through the City of Calgary in 2001. Kidco Construction Ltd. was the low bidder at a total cost of 5.2 million dollars. The project consisted of moving 1.55 million cubic meters of earth to build 1.6 km of subgrade for the future Deerfoot Trail. It also entailed the building of the storm retention/wet land pond. This pond was then tied into a channel of the Bow River. This work in the pond was coordinated with Bernie Amell (Riparian). The job started at the north bank of the Bow River and went one mile north. This job was slated to be completed, (less the landscaping) in 2001. This project was challenging in the fact that although there was a large quantity of dirt to move every day to get the job done, it had do be done in a way that would not jeopardize the environment adjacent to the Bow River, the river itself, the native animal and plant life. The job was located just a few feet away from the existing waterways. Great efforts were made by Kidco Construction Ltd. to reduce or eliminate the potential for an accident.

Our thorough environmental protection plan was strongly endorsed by all site personnel including the Project Managers, Site Supervisors, operators and subcontractors. Any environmental accident would have been completely unacceptable. By holding everyone to a very high standard of safety and environmental awareness, the plan was executed successfully. A number of high volume storm events over two seasons were handled without any environmental erosion problems. The project was to be completed by November 25, 2001.

By consistently monitoring our progress internally were able to make the necessary equipment allocations to complete the project on time. We were even able to make up for two weeks time that was lost during a land issue.

This will be one of the few Deerfoot Trail contracts to come in on time and under budget.

Highway 2:12 at Aldersyde -- Alberta Transportation
Kidco Construction Ltd. worked as a sub-contractor for Selkirk Paving Limited on this project during 2000. Our scope of work was the grading and subgrade preparation. It was on this project that we first worked with Jim Zagas from UMA Engineering. This project consisted of constructing approximately 10 km of new subgrade for the twinning of highway 2. The majority of this fill material came from an onsite borrow at one extreme of the project.

The above-mentioned projects are just a few of the hundreds of projects Kidco Construction Ltd. has completed in the recent past.
