Kidco Construction is a proud supporter of local charities as well as local athletes. One of the charities that Kidco is proud to support is the ALS Alberta Society , ALS is a rapidly progressive disease and individuals can seldom afford to wait for the equipment they need. The ALS Society provides equipment, works with families and insurance companies to fund the equipment, and makes up any funding shortfall. The society maintains a pool of equipment so that the right piece of equipment may be available to those who need it immediately. Kidco Construction not only sponsors the Annual Betty’s Run for ALS but our employees proudly take part in the run themselves.
Brad Spence
Currently a member of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team, Brad Spence, competes in both Slalom and Giant Slalom at the National and International level. His competitive nature landed him a spot on the Olympic team marking a memorable 2010 as he fulfilled one of his life-long dreams of competing for Canada at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. Currently, his focus is on the Audi FIS Ski World Cup circuit and the 2011 World Ski Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany this coming February. After ranking 24th in the World in Slalom and grasping the title of Canadian Champion in Giant Slalom last season, Brad is now working hard to not only maintain his previous titles but improve on them as well.
While Brad’s past few seasons have been filled with success and achievement he did face a couple setbacks along the way. Months before the 2006 Olympics in Torino, Italy, Brad was competing in a World Cup Downhill in Bormio, Italy and sustained a very serious lower leg injury. A broken tibia, fibula, torn ACL, and meniscus damage in his right knee held him from competition for nearly three seasons. Although Brad still suffers from nerve damage in his right foot, it hasn’t kept him from pushing towards his goal of standing atop the Olympic podium in Sochi in 2014.
While Brad was out of competition with his broken leg, he attended the University of Calgary in the Faculty of Humanities. Being cooped up in the classroom for days on end was difficult for Brad, who loves the outdoors and in particular skiing throughout the Rockies. Born and raised in Calgary, Brad grew up skiing with the Panorama Ski Club. When he is not out on the slopes, he enjoys cycling, playing hockey, anything to do with music, and cooking.
Kidco, has generously sponsored and supported Brad and his goals for the past four years. The Kidco logo can be seen on the right arm of all of Brad’s team wear. Hannah Melinchuk
Kidco Construction is proud to introduce our newest athlete, Hannah Melinchuk. Hannah is 13 years old and currently ski’s out of Rabbit Hill Ski Club. Hannah began skiing when she was 10 years old and in the last 2 years she has qualified to attend the Whistler Cup with Team Alberta and with the season she is having this year we are confident that Hannah will again be attending the Whistler Cup this season.
In addition to her rigorous ski schedule, Hannah is in the academic challenge program at her school and has maintained honors with distinction for the last two year. Hannah also enjoys track and field, high jump, cycling and volleyball, last year Hannah’s school volleyball team were City Champions.
Hannah's goals for the next year are top five finishes at Canadian Championships; podium series points in Alberta; and to go to Whistler Cup for team Canada, with Hannah's ambition and drive we have no doubt that we will see her accomplish these goals.
